A clinical review was made in 159 cases of breast mass lesion at the department of general surgery, Kangnam General Hospital Public Corporation from January 1981 to August 1983.
The results were obtained as follows;
1) Among 159 cases, 148 cases were observed in female(93.1%) and 11 cases of gynecomastia were observed in male(6.9%).
2) The most frequent site of lesion was in upper outer quadrant(38.3%).
3) The most frequent age groups of breast mass was from 20?29 years group. The fibroadenoma was most common in 2nd decade(63.8%), mammary dysplasia in 3rd and 4th decade (72.5%), cancer in 4th and 5th decade(60.5%), gynecomastia in under 2nd decade(72.6%) and other breast mass in 2nd decade(50.0%).
4) The most common clinical manifestation was painless mass (79.2%), followed by painful mass(lO.7%), breast pain(9.4%) and nipple discharge(6.2%).
5) The most common group of size of breast mass was 3 to 5 cm in diameter(32.7%).
